Wings of Love: Wings on You Tube!
Follow the Wings of LovePeter Schuman of Lake Havasu City produced a story about the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Event in Lake Havasu which highlights the Wings of Love that were distributed to the cancer survivor participants and some of their family members.  You can view the story in four parts by visiting the following links.  You can also access these links on the "Web Links" Navavigation from our home page.

Wings of Love: Sweatshop in production
Follow the Wings of LoveBarb hosted a sewing day at her home on Sunday afternoon, Jan 11, 2009.  The goal was to make as many Wings of Love as possible for Peg to distribute to the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati as the first delivery with more to be provided as needed.  So, Granny, Jane, Sally, Peg, Tamie, Barb, Emily, Leah, John and Jeff all worked for several hours to produce 69 Wings.  They used the materials they had been collecting from flea markets, fabric store sales and close outs, donations and other general fabric hording as sewers are known to do.  Each participant was able to choose what step in the process they wanted to work on, and they were off and running.  Granny sewed on the pockets, Peg and Sally ran the Serge machines.  Barb the quilting machine. Tamie and Jane cut and pinned.  Leah made business cards, John and Jeff made the verse cards and threaded the ribbons and attached the safety pins. Barb remained the ever vigilant process expediter and provided "breaks" to those who needed one and stood in where necessary.  She made sure everyone had snacks and beverages and more fabric and other supplies.  They all had so much fun, they decided to do it again and maybe even make it a once a month event.

Wings of Love: More wings to Africa
babynurse writes "
Once again Crossroads church is going on a mission trip to africa.
Sue and her teenage daughter Ali are going and taking wings with them.
Emily also works at Mercy hospital and she and her mom have made over 30 wings for her to take along to give away.  Dr. Thress, one of our OB docs is also going on this trip.  So please keep them in your prayers.

We also continue to give Baby wings to those little ones in our Special Care Nursery.  The parents are always appreciative and those little babies look so adorable wrapped in their wings.    Tamie

Wings of Love: Wings going to Africa
Follow the Wings of LoveBabynurse writes "Last week several nurses from Mercy Hospital Anderson gathered to make wings so that Sue and Kris, two of my coworkers in the maternity unit, could take them to Mamelodi, South Afirca.  They are going on a mission trip with their church, Crossroads, at the end of June.   Along with the many wings that Peg made for us they will have well over 30 wings to take and give away on their trip.  We had a lot of fun making them and hope they will bring comfort to those who receive them.  Sue and Kris, we wish you a safe and fulfilling trip,  God Bless. Hopefully I will get a picture of us with the wings on the website and Sue promises to take pictures on her trip!

Wings of Love: LHC Relay a HUGE Success!!!
Follow the Wings of Love
The event I was planning for about one year finally took place, just as I had imagined it would.  Last night more than 100 participants in the Lake Havasu City Relay for Life event walked the gauntlet of Wings and found their Wings.

I had never felt such an outpouring of love as I felt on that high school track as total strangers hugged with such sincerity that the love flowed between them effortlessly.

I will try to get the balance of the Wings photos uploaded so that the cancer survivors and the children who were there in support of their loved ones can locate an image of the Wings they claimed as their own.  I’m sure there will be many testimonials from the recipients in the coming days, weeks and even months, as they begin to confirm what I have always known, you can really “feel” the power of love when wrapped in the wings of an angel.

Many thanks to all of those who helped make my dream become a reality.  I could never have pulled off such a fete if not for the unselfish generosity of time, money and unconditional love of the many volunteers and other contributors.  Thank you, you know who you are.

Special thanks to Peter Schuman.  Peter has given of his skills to produce a video of the making of the Wings and results of this labor of love.  I will do my best to make sure you get the chance to view this when it becomes available. Who knows?   Maybe you’ll even see it on the Orpah show!

Wings of Love: Show & Tell at Jenny's in LHC April 7th, '07
Follow the Wings of LoveWith the Relay for Life event taking place in LHC, AZ on April 20th & 21st, it is important that we determine how many Wings we have prepared and if we will need to make a big sewing push to finish enough Wings for every cancer survivor who attends to get their wings at the event.

So, Jenny will be hosting another opportunity to meet the other people who sew and drop off completed wings and pick up more fabric if you want to continue sewing. Stop by Jenny's house on Sat., April 7 between 10 am and noon.

It would be nice to get a group photo taken to put on the website too.

Contact Jenny to let her know if you will be attending or not.

The current count stands at 54 adult wings completed and 37 youth (at best guess).

Please bring your ideas and experiences to share.

Wings of Love: Heartland Hospice Volunteers Make Wings of Love
Follow the Wings of LoveAnonymous writes "Last May 2006  Peg gave me a set of wings to show to my volunteers at church.  You all need to hear the results.  Christian Women's club cut out patterns and supplied us with cutout angel wings for the Anderson Hills Quilters to make.  Since last May they have made about 6 Wings of Love per month which totals about 42.  These wings of love have been distributed by staff and volunteers to hospice patients in 5 counties in SW Ohio around the Cincinnati Area.
One of my volunteers, who received a set of wings from Peg when her husband was ill, passed on her wings to one of her hospice patient.

CAN YOU HELP US!  We are looking for more volunteers in the greater Cincinnati Area to make and deliver Wings of Love to Heartland Hospice patients.
Please call me at 513 731-6100  Jacqueline

Wings of Love: Seven Sisters Share the Love
Follow the Wings of LoveAnonymous writes "Seven Sisters Share the Love
By
Peg Quallen

I usually carry a sample of the adult and baby Wings of Love in the trunk of car, just in case I need to demo them for someone.  On a Saturday night in October we attended my niece’s wedding.  An old friend was the photographer for the event and Dede, his wife came along.  It was an outdoor reception held on the grounds of a local mansion.  They had set up tents with heaters, but it was still a little chilly, so I got the wings out of the trunk for my daughter in law Alivia to wear.  Dede sat at the same table with us and of course a lively conversation ensued.

During the conversation we talked about our families and various friends.  I told Dede about the Wings of Love project and showed her the sample Alivia was wearing.  The sample is made out of a very special rose print.  I am one of seven sisters, and I found the seven sisters rose print at a local shop and bought all they had in stock.  I use it whenever I’m making something special for one of my sisters.  As it turns out Dede is also one of seven sisters, and her sister Alma who lives in Dallas has been battling cancer for a long time. We determined that the sample set of wings really needed to go to Alma by way of all of Dede’s sisters touching it first.  The matching baby wings needed to go to her other sister Barb’s adopted baby who is struggling with various problems.

I had never given away my sample set of wings before, but it was very clear to me where these needed to go.  Dede took the wings and each of her sisters try the on and write a message to Alma.  I received the attached poem that one of the sisters wrote to Alma.

ANGEL WINGS
(For healing)

Angel Wings in fabric of pink
Bring warmth & a bright comforting glow ~
The “Seven Roses for Seven Sisters”
Make them special, ever so!

We wrapped the Angel Wings completely around us
And filled them with our tender care ~
We wore them as we talked to God
Expressing our love in prayer!

We asked Him to send you His loving Angels
To wrap you up in their wings ~
To surround you with Pure Love & Protection
And promise your heart to sing!

As they shower Pure Knowledge & Forgiveness
Over your head & heart ~
Absorb their Peace & Comfort
Happiness will emerge from within!

Wrap the Angel Wings all around you
Feel the warmth of our Love ~
Feel the presence of our thoughts & prayers
Angels are being sent from Above!

M.J.D.
We all Love you and Miss you very much, Alma!

Love ~ Barb, Bev, Chris, Dede, Michelle & Renee ~

And so the love spreads and the angels continue hugging those in need of comfort.
